ABOUT THE ARTIST

Amrita Sher-Gil, a Hungarian-Indian Painter who was born on 30th January 1912 at Budapest, Hungary. She got trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Her stunning canvas abilities to portray the day-by-day lives of Indian women in the’90s were sensed and acclaimed all over the world. She was a pioneer of 20th-century Indian modern art. The paintings of Amrita Sher Gil talked about ladies walking to the market, girls attending a wedding, housewives at home. Occasionally she revealed women bonding with other women. Now and again the works appeared to pass on a sense of quiet intent. Due to her distinctive style and her emphasis on girls, Sher-Gil was also known as the”Indian Frida Kahlo.”
