ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jamini Roy was an Indian Artist. He was attracted to pictures of Santhals and straightforward town life. He studied art at the Government School of Art, Calcutta, Roy’s aesthetic driving forces were established in his growing years in Beliatore Village in the Birbhum area of undivided Bengal around then. The Painting Style and artworks of Jamini Roy were appreciated by the rich and incredible, including previous Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who declared him a “National Artist”. He was regarded with the State Award of Padma Bhushan in 1955. The unique painting style of Jamini Roy made him the most celebrated student of Abanindranath Tagore, whose masterful innovation and commitment to the rise of art in India stay questionable.
